The Only Appropriate Response

The only appropriate response when you sense the presence of God:
"I am undone."

Jesus sees through your falsehoods and your illusions.

Heb 4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Jesus's gaze exposes us. That is not to condemn us but to point out our need of forgiveness so that we can have the veil of separation between Him and us taken away. You might feel there is a confrontation brewing, but this is nothing but a battle between your stubborn pride and a loving God.

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

Do not resist the Holy Spirit. You might feel like crying when He looks upon you. There are different kinds of tears. Tears of regret, tears of hurt ego, tears of sadness, tears of self pity; none of these types of tears will benefit you. Only tears of repentance and surrender to God will profit your soul. When you feel this battle brewing inside you, don't think that God is trying to be mean to you or control you or take something good away from you. He is trying to give you life. And that life can only come by being born again. That which is born of flesh is flesh, and all flesh passes away like the grass of the field. But that which is born of Spirit is spirit, and when you are born of the Spirit, you have passed from death unto life--behold all things become new.

Jesus stands at the nexus of your life--now--the very bridge to eternity, the intersection between past and future, and offers His hand and bids you rise up from ashes and failures to begin a glorious new life of heavenly fellowship with Him. Jesus says "come unto Me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." That rest is full of peace and joy; that rest is found in the companionship of God, Who is love, Who has promised to never leave you nor forsake you.

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

But before you can enjoy the peace of God, you must allow Him to confront you with His truth. That may seem like it would be painful, but really the only thing that experiences any pain is the ego while it is resisting God. Once you stop resisting Him and let Him do His work of regeneration, once you fully believe in your heart that Jesus loves you and died for you, once you fully trust Him to keep His word, then all the resistance falls away and along with it all the pain.

The sin you feel ashamed of was already judged and condemned and put to death on the cross. Jesus bore that sin for you; it passed through His own body into death. And He rose again and offers you that total victory over sin and death right now, if you will accept it by simply believing.

Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
