Deliver Us from Evil

Salvation is literally the forgiveness of our sins.
When our sins are forgiven, God actually wipes them out.
Forgiveness is our ONLY path to salvation, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
When we are forgiven, we are made PERFECT before God and are given unfettered access to His throne.
Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Ephesians 1:7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

Psalm 32:1-2
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no deceit.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We are responsible for our thought life. Satan will attack our mind with things we should not entertain, but it is up to us to recognize them. We can only do this as our mind is renewed.

God already knows you

Hebrews 4:13
And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Psalm 139 (read it)

Psalm 119:11
Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

Romans 12:2
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

"We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ."
—2 Corinthians 10:5

We don’t gain practical victory over sin through our struggling with it in our own strength or by psycho-analyzing it. We are given power in the Spirit to put to death the deeds of the flesh.

Romans 8:13
For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Gal 5:16
"...but I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh."

How do we achieve this in practical reality? How is our spirit strengthened and our flesh mortified? By spending time in the presence of God, in His Word, and in prayer.

2 Corinthians 3:18
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Temptation and the devil...
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Matthew 6:13
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Matthew 26:41
Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Note that Jesus speaks of entering into temptation. This seems like a step beyond simply being tempted. We are tempted by our own thoughts. When we entertain those thoughts, it is then that we enter into temptation. So, the time to do battle with temptation is at the first moment such a thought enters our mind, before it gains strength over us.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Note that God has set aside a special reward, the "crown of life," for His children who "endure" temptation, who resist it, who overcome it.

The Christian goal is perfection. That is our only standard of behavior, and anything less is not acceptable.

1 John 3:3
And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

We purify ourselves with the grace that Jesus gives us in the same dispensation as His forgiveness of sins, which makes us holy. We walk in that exact same grace which makes us perfect to do battle with the thoughts of our own mind and bring them into submission to Christ, taking every thought captive...

Philippians 2:12-13
...work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

James 1:21
Get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the Word planted in you, which can save you.

Romans 6:14
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

John 8:34-36
Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."

James 1:25
But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

James 2:12
So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty.

Even though we are not judged by the law, we live our lives as if we were, because the law is perfect, and it exposes sin.

Romans 14:23b
...for whatever is not from faith is sin.

1 Corinthians 9:27
But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

James 4:17
Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

Matt 5:21-30 (read it)

Romans 12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

This is how we put to death the deeds of the flesh. This is how we give the Holy Spirit of God permission to take authority in our bodies, in our lives, and in our minds. Jesus became a curse for us, and by His death, burial, and resurrection, He cancels every curse we were under. Every family curse, every curse of witchcraft, every curse brought about by sin, every curse put on us by abuse. By putting yourself on the cross, by PRESENTING your body a living sacrifice, you APPROPRIATE Jesus's miraculous power to SET YOU FREE from sin. This is how you "take my yoke upon you," as Jesus promised when He said "for my yoke is easy and my burden light." This is how you OVERCOME. You have the Holy Spirit of God, the overcoming Spirit of Jesus Himself, who overcame ALL temptation, who overcame ALL sin, who overcame death itself and triumphed over the grave, setting captives free. You have HIS Spirit Who overcomes the world. You submit yourself to HIS Spirit, confessing your sins, allowing His light to shine in you and search your heart and transform your mind and expose and remove all the dark and hidden things, to disarm the power of the enemy in your life, to NULLIFY the lies and the deceptions that have kept you a prisoner all your life, to release you into the freedom of the sons of God, into God's very presence, God's very throneroom of grace, where the angels praise God;

Day and night they never stop saying:
"Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,
who was, and is, and is to come." (Rev 1:8)

We are bought with a price; we are not our own! We belong to Jesus! We have been redeemed from the realm of darkness and set free into His kingdom of light.

1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Now notice here that Jesus is explicitly saying that God will keep you from evil during your sojurn in the world...

John 17:15
I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.

Hebrews 7:25
Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Jude 1:24
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy
